Venue Shopping

This past week we were spending our time checking out wedding venues in Northern Michigan with the family.  And when I say family, I mean the whole family!  Bryan and I took the redeye from Seattle to Chicago and then on to Grand Rapids where we arrived bright and early Saturday morning at 9am EST on just about 3 hours of sleep.  Both sets of parents were there to pick us up and they were already getting to know each other quite well.  We exchanged hugs and conversation and then headed off to Manistee.

We visited what ended up being nine different venues in the span of about 30 hours.  It was a whirlwind and a lot of information to take in.  But we made it and we still managed to find time to eat, sleep and have some fun.  We spent two nights together in a 3 bedroom condo at the Homestead Resort in Glen Arbor which was very comfortable and worked out well.  We got to do the scenic drive of the Sleeping Bear Dunes.  We got to eat at the happening Boonedocks on Saturday night in Glen Arbor for some local perch.  We checked out the 45th Latitude Cafe in cute Suttons Bay for lunch and the lunch at the restaurant at the Sommerset Pointe Yacht Club on Lake Charlevoix.  We had a great dinner at the Towne Plaza in Traverse City for pork belly, scallops, beet salad, Spanish wine, bubbles, and local beer at the bar.  We got to get some delicious creamy Moomer’s ice cream in the pouring rain.

After so much driving and question asking we finally were done with our extensive schedule and headed to the cottage for some R&R and time with the grandparents, Jennette and Terry.  We spent two + days really enjoying some relaxing time.  We took some boat rides on the pontoon, had several fires, talked, talked, and talked, went for walks/runs around the lake, and got to have both the shrimp boil and the steak fajitas.  It was much needed time off after the bustle of venue shopping and before getting back to Seattle and work.  Then Wednesday afternoon came and we set off for the Flint airport.  We said our goodbyes and hopped on our plane back to Chicago and then on to Seattle where Marika picked us up to take us back to the Jeep.  We both had an early morning on Thursday which really shocked us back into routine.  It was so nice for all of the effort and time that my lovely family were so generous to give us over Memorial Day Weekend!

We think we know where we are getting married!!!
