Get Away

Oh, I am very ready for my upcoming get away to Austin, TX for the world famous Austin City Limits (ACL) music festival weekend.  I am looking forward to spending my weekend in the Austin heat, celebrating my 26th birthday with my good friend and co-October birthday partner Ben, listening to some of the best bands right now. CAN NOT WAIT!

We have still had such beautiful days that nearly every day I head home from work I can’t help but marvel at the beauty of the lakes and Sound, the city from my house, the leaves turning, and the crispness in the fall air.  It’s been a nice reprieve during some of the stress I have been experiencing lately.  Other nice decoys have been a brilliant Michigan win against the Purdue Boilermakers, while all of my friend’s teams experienced losses and upsets, playing tennis in such beautiful weather, even when I don’t win them all, reading and lounging in the last remaining warm sun rays on my balcony, and making autumn-inspired French toast with my very own apple butter.

I caught up with Amy on Friday to paint nails and discuss life and I met up with my old friend Paul and other meetup kids at Gordon Biersch brewery last week.  We spent hours at Laredo’s Saturday night debating all sorts of intelligent topics with Luis and Carina over margaritas and chips and salsa.  I continue to explore my church more, taking a big step by starting their new Journey course during the morning service to develop better basics of the Christian religion.  And I finally forced myself to venture out to a group meeting on Sunday night, with the promise to myself that I would stop at Menchies on the way home for froyo (which I did stick to my promise and it was delicious).

Veggie Grill crispy chick’n plate. The chicken was deliciously crispy but not greasy and tasted and looked just like real chicken. The mashed potato/cauliflower mash was great, as were the steamed kale on the side with poppy seeds and a great tahini dressing. Cleaned that plate…and was stuffed and happy.
But then tried their vegan chocolate pudding parfait with oreos and walnuts that was free for my “birthday” and then was stuffed beyond belief.

I’ve spent time the past few days trying to sort some things out for myself.  Also taking time to do self-care by going to get my brows done, going shopping at H&M, getting a new book from the library, listening to the recommended “You Are Not Your Brain” book on audiodisk while working at work, watching movies, cooking wholesome dinners, trying out a new restaurant just because I wanted to (and it was all vegetarian and all 100% delicious), and working hard at Sketchup at work.

I had a much needed and great conversation with the boy on Wednesday night.  We had a great dinner at Mezcaleria Oaxaca on Queen Anne Ave that we love some much and listened to each other.  We then got more Menchies and headed home to watch the disturbing, but really intriguing, Machinist.

And yes, you can say very scary!!

I’m ready for some jams, BBQ, and sunny skies!!!
